Islam - Religion of Life - Shalabi (with In the Shade of the Tree Preview)

This book aims to accurately introduce Islam to Muslims and non-Muslims both, particularly in wake of the recent world events. The author is an al-Azhar (Egypt) trained scholar, who received his doctorate from Cambridge University. T. J. Winter (Abdul-Hakim Murad) translated the text. English only.

This book is written about Islam from within. It seeks to show something of the true nature of the faith, thereby challenging the accepted stereotypes which so badly compromise the present dialogue of civilizations. By explaining the significance of the formal practices and doctrines of the Islamic religion, it endeavors to build a bridge over what must be the deepest yet most irrational gulf ever to have cleaved apart two cultures.

Includes a small pamphlet previewing Peter Sanders' In the Shade of the Tree.

SUMMARY

This is a beautiful photo-intensive book of the Islamic world based on the last ten years of the travels of Peter Sanders, a world-class photographer based in the UK.

Reflecting on the wonderful photos in this volume, one finds the architecture, people, and landscapes of the Muslim world somehow communicating the subtle and sublime spirituality of Islam and the demeanor of a land and people little understood in the West.

Such a collection of excellent photography has the uncommon authority of dispelling stubborn myths in a way that no lecture or academic treatise can dare attempt. The photos are accompanied by quotations from the Qur'an, the Prophet , or scholars.

Also included are brief histories of the photos and Mr. Sanders' experience in taking them.
