John L. Esposito is a professor of religion, international affairs, and Islamic studies at Georgetown University. He is former president of the Middle East Studies Association of North America and the American Council for the Study of Islamic Societies. He is the author of The Islamic Threat: Myth or Reality? Khaled Abou El Fadl is a professor of law at UCLA. He was appointed as a commissioner on the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, and serves on the board of directors of Human Rights Watch and the advisory board of Middle East Watch.
