About The Book

How To Be A Happy Muslim Insha'Allah: Rise Above Your Problems and Choose Inner Peace and Joy with Ideas from the Quran, Sunnah, Counseling and Health Fields is a book by trained counselor Sheima Salam Sumer, which intends to guide you in achieving inner peace and joy by combining Islamic teachings with mental and physical health concepts.

Insha'Allah this book will empower you to feel content and in control of your emotions no matter what is happening in your life, and be able to cope with and solve any problems that you face. How to Be a Happy Muslim seeks to help you to think and feel positive across situations, be in a constant state of gratitude to Allah (SWT), and ultimately become your own best friend.

About The Author

Sheima Salam Sumer, Ed.S. has earned her Master’s degree in Counselor Education from the University of South Carolina in 2007. She has worked as a professional counselor in a variety of settings–school, home, and office–counseling individuals of all ages as well as families and groups.

More important than her credentials, however, are her life experiences, which propelled her to write this book. After giving birth to her second child and trying to go back to her full-time work as an in-home counselor, she reached an all-time low in the quality of her health, marriage, and emotional well-being. Her faith in Allah (swt) always kept her going, but she knew that something had to change.

She believes that Allah (swt) guided her to reread a book that she had previously dismissed as un-Islamic and unhelpful. This book is “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne. The second time she read it, she realized that its basic message was very powerful, even though certain aspects of the book would rub a devout Muslim the wrong way. The basic message is that you can improve your life by improving your inner world; i.e. your feelings/emotions.

After realizing that this book had something to offer her, she decided to try out its ideas by focusing on what she wanted in life and focusing on feeling good within. She decided to leave her job and consequently, she had to move to Afghanistan for a year, where her husband had a full-time job. During this time she focused on her dream of compiling a book called “The Basic Values of Islam” which would be a reference book that listed Quranic verses and hadiths that prove that Islam believes in the 70 values listed in the book (such as kindness, gentleness, etc.).

Alhamdulillah, she was able to publish this book (available on Islamicbookstore.com and Amazon.com). She also, with the help of Allah, was able to lose 30 pounds, a goal that she had after gaining too much weight after her second pregnancy. She experienced firsthand how using the law of attraction, The Secret, which she believes to be a blessing of Allah (swt), and which can only work by the permission of Allah, can really improve one’s life.

This second book, “How to be a Happy Muslim Insha’Allah”, is her journey on how to try to feel good/happy within while trying to be true to Islam, her faith. She wanted to share her insights on how she reconciled Islamic teachings with the goal of feeling positive feelings, for the sake of being a more productive Muslim, Insha’Allah.

She hopes that this book will help you on your journey to being a Muslim who is also Happy.
