About The Book

Forty Divine Narrations is the translation of the renowned text of Imam al-Qaḍi Yusuf al-Nabhani (1849–1932), a Shafiʿi jurist and Levantine gnostic. In it, he has compiled forty integral Aḥadith (Prophetic Narrations), on topics ranging from the core fundamental monotheistic belief of Islām to remedies of one’s affairs in accordance to the sharīʿah and wonderful reminders of the nature of an aspirational Muslim.

Each one of the narrations is termed as Ḥadith al-Qudsi (Divine Narration) — a term used in the study of Prophetic narrations to describe those Divine statements aside from those contained in Revelations, which are manifested on the tongue of His Prophet.

About The Author

Shaykh Yusuf al-Nabahani was born in approximately 1849 CE and hailed from a righteous family in Palestine. He first memorized the Qur'an and learned its sciences along with Ahadith literature at the hands of his father.

He then furthered his studies at Al-Azhar University with the foremost teachers of his time. His knowledge, love, and defense of the Prophet (peace be upon him) knew no bounds.

The many books he authored are a testimony to this. Later on in life he taught and presided as a judge in Beirut for many years.

After Qadi Yusuf al-Nabahani retired from his post, he devoted his time to writing and worshipping. He traveled to al-Madinah al-Munawwarah and lived in the noble city for a period.

Then he returned to Beirut, Lebanon where he passed on to the mercy of Allah at the beginning of Ramadhan 1932 CE.
