Together with the longer al-Sharh al-Kabir and Sawi's hashiya, it forms the canonical late-Maliki study sequence — the equivalent in the Maliki school of Minhaj al-Talibin and its commentaries for the Shafiis. The work covers the full sweep of Maliki fiqh across four volumes: ibadat, the various transactions (buyu, ijara, rahn, sharika, hawala, etc.), the detailed law of marriage and divorce, inheritance and bequests, jinayat and qisas, the laws of warfare and jihad, the rules of judicature (qada), and the boundaries of the lawful and forbidden.

al-Dardir was at once the leading Maliki authority of late-eighteenth century Egypt and a Khalwati Sufi shaykh; his commentary is unusual in carrying that twin authority — anchoring rulings firmly in the school's established positions while remaining attentive to the spiritual register of the law. The work has been a standard study text at al-Azhar and across the Maghribi and West African Maliki systems for more than two centuries.

About The Author

Imam Abu al-Barakat Ahmad b. Muhammad al-Adawi al-Dardir (1127-1201 AH / 1715-1786 CE) was born in Bani Adi in Upper Egypt and educated at al-Azhar, where he rose to become its chief Maliki mufti and a leading Khalwati Sufi master. He combined mastery of fiqh, kalam, and tasawwuf in a generation of Egyptian scholarship that shaped much of what came after. His works include al-Sharh al-Kabir, al-Sharh al-Saghir, Aqrab al-Masalik, the Salawat al-Dardiriyya, and his Khulasat al-Aqaid.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0832/5031/5572/files/a2da7cc9-8221-4164-891c-cd31c5c2b47d.jpg?v=1780376338
