It describes the death process itself, the exact relationship of the soul to the body, the states of the soul after it leaves this world, and the nature of the ongoing relationship between the dead and those who are still alive. Layla Mabrouk, an eminent, contemporary, Egyptian scholar has skillfully abridged a classic work by the great medieval scholar, Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyya who was a leading student of Ibn Taymiyya.

About The Author

Muhammad ibn Abu Bakr (also known as Ibn al-Qayyim ("The son of the principal") or Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah ("Son of the principal of the (school of) Jawziyyah")) (1292–1350 CE / 691 AH–751 AH) was an Arab Sunni Islamic jurist, commentator on the Qur'an and theologian.

Although he is sometimes referred to as "the scholar of the heart", given his extensive works pertaining to human behaviour and ethics, Ibn al-Qayyim's scholarship was focused on the sciences of Hadith and Fiqh.

About The Translator

Aisha Abdurrahman Bewley, born 1948 in the United States. She holds a BA in French and MA in Near Eastern Languages from the University of California, Berkeley. She spent a year with a fellowship at the American University in Cairo and at the same time attended a seminar on Sufism and Islamic philosophy at Dar al-’Ulum. She is a student of Shaykh Abdalqadir al-Murabit, and also studied Ibn ‘Arabi with the late Sidi Fudul al-Hurawi in Fes, Morocco.

Aisha Bewley converted to Islam in 1968. She is the author and translator of many published and unpublished works, some available on her website. She is married to Hajj Abdalhaqq Bewley with whom she often translates and mother of three children.
