Shaykh al-Faqih, al-Muhaddith al-Musnid, al-'Arif billah 'Abd Allah ibn Sa'id ibn Muhammad 'Abbadi al-Lahji al-Hadrami was born in 1343 AH in Lahj, Yemen, and set out in the pursuit of sacred knowledge while still young. He kept the company of Sayyid 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad al-Ahdal for more than ten years, studying a wide range of sciences under him and excelling in all of them. After learning from other scholars of Yemen, he journeyed to Makkah, where he became a close student of al-Sayyid 'Alawi al-Maliki (father of al-Sayyid Muhammad al-Maliki), reading with him the Muwatta and the collections of al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, and al-Tirmidhi.

Among his written works are:
- Is'af Ahl al-Khibrah bi-Hukm Isti'mal al-Sa'im lil-Ibrah
- Idah al-Qawa'id al-Fiqhiyyah li-Tullab al-Madrasah al-Sulatiyyah
- Hadiqat al-Abrar Sharh Bahjat al-Anwar
- Nazm fi al-Ghazawat
- Nazm al-Minhaj (of Imam al-Nawawi)
- Risalah Jama'a fiha Arba'in Hadithan
- Fath al-Mannan fi Shama'il Shaykhina 'Abd al-Rahman
- al-Mirqat ila al-Riwayat wa al-Ruwat
- I'anat Rabb al-Bariyyah 'ala Jam' Tarajim Rijal al-Hadith al-Musalsal bil-Awaliyyah

He passed away in 1410 AH in Makkah al-Mukarramah, may Allah have mercy upon him.
