Dr. AbdulHamid Ahmad AbuSulayman (1936-2021) was a prominent Saudi Islamic scholar, thinker, and educational reformer born in Makka. He completed bachelor's and master's degrees in Commerce and Political Science from Cairo University in 1959 and 1963 respectively, and earned a doctorate in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania. A co-founder of the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) in the United States, he served as its chairman and was a central figure in the movement for the Islamization of human knowledge. He was the founding rector of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), a position he held from 1989 to 1999, and previously served as Secretary-General of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) and as a founding member and president of the Association of Muslim Social Scientists (AMSS). He also held the chair of Political Science at King Saud University. His many published works addressed Muslim education, parenting, international relations, and Islamic reform, with titles issued through IIIT. He passed away on 18 August 2021 in Riyadh and was buried near al-Masjid al-Haram in Makka.
