About
Imam Abu Abd Allah Muhammad b. Ja'far al-Kattani (1274-1345 AH / 1857-1927 CE) rahimahullah was a leading Moroccan Maliki hadith scholar and Sufi master who came from the Kattani house - one of the most distinguished learned families of Morocco, with numerous masters across many centuries. He was a major figure in the Maliki Moroccan Sufi tradition and was recognized for his scholarship in both the transmitted and rational sciences. His al-Risala al-Mukhtasara distills the foundations of the Sufi path, addressing in concise form the qualifications required of the spiritual guide, the conduct incumbent upon the seeker, the structure of the Sufi way, the proper adab of dhikr, and the spiritual stations and states that mark the path. The work is suited for use as an introductory text in circles of spiritual formation.
