About
Imam Abu al-Husayn Ahmad b. Muhammad al-Quduri (362-428 AH / 973-1037 CE) rahimahullah was the leading Hanafi authority of Iraq in his time and the supreme codifier of the school in the late-classical period. His Mukhtasar al-Quduri, composed in the early fifth century AH, encompasses the complete Hanafi legal corpus - covering worship, transactions, marriage, criminal law, and judiciary - in a single compact volume. The legal authority he brought to the task allowed him to settle in brief formulations questions that had long been subjects of internal Hanafi debate, and his choices became the foundation upon which subsequent Hanafi commentators built - including the authors of al-Hidaya, Kanz al-Daqa'iq, al-Wiqaya, and other major texts of the tradition. For a thousand years the Mukhtasar has been the first advanced text placed before the student of Hanafi jurisprudence.
