About
Imam Abu'l-Fath Muhammad ibn Muhammad, widely known as Ibn Sayyid al-Nas rahimahullah (671-734 AH / 1273-1334 CE), was one of the distinguished hadith scholars and literary figures of medieval Egypt. He dedicated his scholarly life to mastering the many disciplines associated with hadith literature and the Arabic language, excelling across multiple fields of Islamic learning. His stature was attested by Imam al-Dhahabi, who remarked: 'Rarely does one set eyes on his like in terms of his understanding and learning.' His most celebrated and enduring work is 'Uyun al-Athar fi Funun al-Maghazi wa'l-Shama'il wa'l-Siyar, a comprehensive and authoritative biographical study of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The book published as TP036, 'Nur al-'Uyun fi Talkhis Sirat al-Amin al-Ma'mun,' is a succinct edited version of this larger work. Ibn Sayyid al-Nas passed away in 734 AH/1334 CE, leaving behind a lasting contribution to the literature of prophetic biography.
