About
Shaykh Ahmad ibn al-Hajj al-'Iyashi Sukayrij rahimahullah (1878-1944 / 1295-1363 AH) was a Moroccan Islamic scholar born and based in Fes, one of the great centers of traditional Islamic learning in North Africa. Trained in the Maliki school of jurisprudence, he was also deeply immersed in the Sufi sciences, particularly through affiliation with the Tijaniyya spiritual order. Sukayrij was a prolific writer whose works span the fields of prophetic biography (seerah), mawlid literature, prophetic praise poetry, and Sufi doctrine. His text translated into English as 'Complete Elation and Happiness Through the Birth of the Locus of Light' belongs to the genre of mawlid literature celebrating the prophetic nativity. He was a student of prominent Moroccan scholars and himself taught generations of students in Fes. His writings remain an important part of the Moroccan scholarly heritage and the broader Tijaniyya tradition.
