About
Imam Shihab al-Din Ahmad ibn Naqib al-Misri rahimahullah (702-769 AH / 1302-1368 CE) was a recognized authority within the traditional Sunni discipline of fiqh, working within the Shafi'i school. His most celebrated work, Umdat al-Salik wa Uddat al-Nasik (known in its English translation as Reliance of the Traveler), is a comprehensive manual of Shafi'i sacred law that has endured as a foundational text in classical and contemporary Shafi'i scholarship and teaching. The work was translated into English by Shaykh Nuh Ha Mim Keller, and its translation received formal certification from al-Azhar University - the first Islamic legal work in a European language to do so.
