About
Al-Muhassin ibn Ali al-Tanukhi (327-84/939-94) rahimahullah was a judge (qadi) and prominent man of letters active in Basra and Baghdad during the height of the Abbasid literary tradition. His family connections placed him at the center of the intellectual and social networks of his day, giving him access to the stories and anecdotes he gathered across his career. He compiled two anthologies; the more celebrated is Deliverance Follows Adversity (al-Faraj ba'd al-shidda), a wide-ranging collection of narratives on resilience, piety, and divine relief. His works offer a vivid window into the social and literary life of fourth/tenth-century Iraq.
