About
Al-Imam al-Waqidi rahimahullah (130-207 AH / 747-822 CE) was one of the most celebrated historians of early Islam. Born in Madina at the beginning of 130 AH, he began his studies there before migrating to Iraq in 180 AH during the reign of al-Ma'mun. In Iraq, his vast learning earned him the patronage of Yahya al-Barmaki, and he became part of al-Ma'mun's learned circle. He was subsequently appointed as a judge, a post he held with distinction until his death in 207 AH. Among his enduring works are detailed accounts of the early Islamic conquests, including 'The Islamic Conquest of Syria' (Futuh al-Sham) and 'Conquests of the Sahabah,' which remain important references for Islamic military and political history.
