About
Shaykh Hamzah Abdul-Malik is an American Islamic scholar who committed the Qur'an to memory at a young age and subsequently traveled overseas for close to two decades of classical Islamic education in Morocco, Syria, Yemen, and Egypt. His curriculum encompassed the Arabic language, the Maliki madhhab, grammar, usul al-hadith, and two traditions of Qur'anic recitation. At the conclusion of his studies he received an ijaza al-tadris - a formal license to teach, equivalent to a postgraduate degree in Arabic and Islamic studies - along with an unbroken chain of transmission authorizing him to narrate the major hadith collections, including the Muwatta of Imam Malik and the Sihah al-Sitta. Upon returning to the United States, Shaykh Hamzah spent several years as resident scholar at the Thawr Institute in Seattle, working alongside Darul Qasim, CAIR, and the Halal Food Standards Alliance of America. He is currently the resident scholar at Ribat, a center for Islamic learning in the Midwest. He is a faculty member of the Imam Ghazali Institute and is the author of The Endless Banquet, a thematic three-volume explanation of the Qur'an, and The Qur'an Code, a study of themes from Juz 'Amma, both published by Imam Ghazali Publishing.
