About
Imam Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Yazid ibn Majah al-Qazwini rahimahullah (209-273 AH / 824-887 CE) was a leading hadith scholar of the third Islamic century, born and based in Qazwin (in modern-day Iran). He traveled widely in pursuit of hadith, journeying to the Hijaz, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, and Khurasan to collect narrations from the major hadith transmitters of his era. His most celebrated work, Sunan Ibn Majah, is one of the canonical Six Books (al-Kutub al-Sitta) of Sunni hadith scholarship - the authoritative collections that form the backbone of Prophetic tradition literature. The Sunan contains approximately 4,341 hadiths across its chapters of fiqh. Ibn Majah also composed a tafsir of the Qur'an and a history (tarikh), though the Sunan remains his most enduring scholarly legacy.
