L. P. Harvey was a leading British scholar of medieval Iberian Islam and the history of Muslims in Spain. He served as Cervantes Professor of Spanish and head of the Department of Spanish and Spanish American Studies at King's College, University of London, and was a Fellow and research associate of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies. He retired from King's College as professor emeritus. His most significant works are Islamic Spain 1250 to 1500 (University of Chicago Press, 1990), which covers the period from the fall of Seville to the fall of Granada, and Muslims in Spain 1500 to 1614 (University of Chicago Press, 2005), which traces the fate of the Morisco community after the Reconquista. He also contributed a volume on Ibn Battuta to the Oxford Makers of Islamic Civilisation series.
