Al-Allama Muhammad b. Abdullah b. Abd al-Latif al-Jardani al-Dimyati al-Shafii rahimahullah (d. 1331 AH / 1913 CE) was an Egyptian Shafii scholar from Damietta (Dimyat) in the Delta region. He is known chiefly for his al-Jawahir al-Luluiyya fi Sharh al-Arbaeen al-Nawawiyya, a commentary on al-Nawawi's celebrated collection of Forty Hadith - one of the most widely studied introductory hadith texts in the Islamic tradition. The commentary proceeds through all forty-two hadiths in the collection, unpacking the meaning of each narration and drawing out its legal and creedal implications. It is pedagogically oriented toward students beginning their engagement with hadith sciences, presenting the material in clear accessible Arabic. Al-Jawahir al-Luluiyya connects individual hadiths to the broader heritage of Sunni scholarship, linking each narration to the tradition it represents.
