About
Jamal al-Din Muhammad b. Umar b. Mubarak al-Himyari al-Hadrami, known as Bahraq (869-930 AH / 1465-1524 CE) rahimahullah, was a scholar from the Hadramawt region of Yemen with a particular mastery of Arabic language sciences (lugha and nahw). He is principally known for his work Tuhfat al-Ahbab fi Sharh Mulhat al-Irab, a commentary on the Mulhat al-Irab, the well-known didactic poem on Arabic morphology and syntax composed by Abu Muhammad al-Hariri of Basra. His commentary served as a teaching tool for students of Arabic grammar within the Hadhrami scholarly tradition, and he is counted among the scholars of the ninth and tenth Islamic centuries who preserved and transmitted the classical Arabic linguistic sciences.
