About
Muhammad Yusuf Kandhlawi, rahimahullah, was a prominent Indian Islamic scholar and the second amir of the Tablighi Jama'at, the global Islamic revival movement founded by his father, Maulana Muhammad Ilyas Kandhlawi (1885-1944). Following in his father's footsteps, he led the Jama'at and continued its mission of grassroots religious renewal across the Muslim world. His most celebrated contribution to Islamic scholarship is 'Hayatus Sahaba' (Lives of the Companions of the Prophet), a comprehensive Arabic work documenting the lives, virtues, and teachings of the Companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Completed in 1959, it was subsequently translated into multiple languages and expanded into four volumes, with scholarly annotations and commentary by two eminent scholars: Shaykh Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi (1913-1999) and Shaykh Abd al-Fattah Abu Ghudda (1917-1997). The work remains among the most widely read collections on the Companions in the modern Muslim world.
