About
Mulla Jeewan, Ahmad ibn Abi Said al-Jawnpuri (d. 1130 AH / 1717 CE), rahimahullah, was a prominent Hanafi scholar from Jaunpur in northern India. He is primarily known as the author of Nur al-Anwar, a detailed commentary on Imam Hafiz al-Din al-Nasafi's Manar al-Anwar - itself a foundational text in Hanafi usul al-fiqh (principles of Islamic jurisprudence). Nur al-Anwar systematically explains the principles governing the interpretation of legal texts in the Hanafi tradition and has remained a core text in the Dars-i-Nizami curriculum across South Asia for centuries, studied in seminaries from Pakistan and India to Bangladesh. Mulla Jeewan's commentary is noted for its clarity and depth in explaining the technical vocabulary of usul al-fiqh.
