About
Musa ibn Uqbah rahimahullah (d. ~141 AH / 758 CE) was a Madinan scholar of the Tabi'in generation and one of the earliest and most authoritative historians of the life and campaigns of the Prophet ﷺ. He studied under senior scholars who had direct contact with the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, giving his narrations a particularly high degree of reliability in the eyes of later hadith critics and historians. His primary work, the Maghazi, is regarded as among the oldest surviving compilations documenting the prophetic military expeditions, and later historians and biographers drew on it extensively. Classical scholars praised his accuracy and trustworthiness as a transmitter. He spent his scholarly life in Madina and died there around 141 AH.
