Mustafa al-Sibai مصطفى السباعي

Dr. Mustafa al-Sibai, rahimahullah, was born in 1915 in the city of Homs, Syria, into a scholarly family. He memorized the Qur'an at a young age and completed his primary and secondary studies at the Masudiyyah School, where he excelled. He studied Islamic sciences in Homs under his father Shaykh Hasani Sibai and in scholarly circles with jurists including Shaykh Tahir al-Atasi, then Mufti of Homs, Shaykh Zahid al-Atasi, Shaykh Muhammad al-Yasin, and Shaykh Anis Kalalib. From the age of eighteen he delivered the Friday khutba in his father's absence. In 1933 he traveled to Egypt and enrolled at al-Azhar University to study fiqh, and later at its Usul al-Din faculty. In 1949 he completed his doctoral thesis on the theme of the position of the Sunna in Islamic legislation.
