Nazih Daher is Chairman of the Department of Asian and African Languages at the Foreign Service Institute of the United States Department of State, the principal training institution for American diplomats and foreign affairs professionals. In that capacity he has overseen language instruction at the highest levels of the US diplomatic service. As a scholar of Arabic and Islamic texts, he collaborated with David Burrell, Theodore M. Hesburgh Professor of Philosophy and Theology at the University of Notre Dame, to produce an English translation of al-Ghazali's al-Maqsad al-Asna fi Sharh Asma' Allah al-Husna, published as Al-Ghazali on the Ninety-Nine Beautiful Names of God. This work stands as one of the standard English renderings of al-Ghazali's theological treatise on the divine names.
