Nevit O.Ergin

Nevit O. Ergin is a Turkish-American translator who devoted much of his career to bringing the works of Jalal al-Din Rumi into English. He is best known for his multi-volume translation of Rumi's Divan-i Kebir (the major collection of Rumi's ghazals and rubais), produced in collaboration with Will Johnson, and for his translation of The Rubais of Rumi: Insane with Love. His approach to translation prioritizes the spiritual resonance and experiential quality of Rumi's poetry over strict literal fidelity, aiming to make the mystical content accessible to contemporary English readers. Ergin has contributed significantly to the broader dissemination of Rumi's Sufi poetry in the English-speaking world.
