Omar Suleiman (b. 1986 CE) is an American Muslim scholar, author, and civil rights activist. He is best known as the founder and president of the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research, an American research institute and think tank he established in 2016 in Irving, Texas, devoted to producing scholarship on faith, conviction, and contemporary Muslim life. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to a family of Palestinian descent, he began his public service in his home city, serving for several years as an imam there before relocating to the Dallas area. He pursued degrees in Islamic law and finance and completed a doctorate in Islamic Thought and Civilization at the International Islamic University Malaysia. Today he is resident scholar at the Valley Ranch Islamic Center and an adjunct professor of Islamic studies and member of the Ethics Center Advisory Board at Southern Methodist University. Suleiman is recognized for his work in social justice, interfaith engagement, and accessible religious teaching, and his name has appeared in The Muslim 500 listing of influential Muslims. His books, written in a warm and devotional register, include Prayers of the Pious, Meeting Muhammad, Allah Loves, Angels in Your Presence, The Prophet of Mercy, and 40 on Justice: The Prophetic Voice on Social Reform.
