Dr. Omer El-Hamdoon is a British-Iraqi Islamic scholar, imam, educator, and translator who was born in Mosul, Iraq, and moved to the United Kingdom with his family at an early age. He earned a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Sheffield and later a Master of Medical Sciences in Restorative Dentistry, before pursuing formal Islamic studies through the European Institute of Human Sciences, where he received an ijaza in Islamic Studies in 2002, and subsequently completing a Master's in Islamic Sciences from the Markfield Institute of Higher Education in 2017. He has held prominent leadership roles in the British Muslim community, serving as President of the Muslim Association of Britain from 2011 to 2018 and as Deputy Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain from 2016 to 2018. In 2017 he established the Kingston Oak Tree Institute to provide Islamic education in the United Kingdom. As a translator, Dr. El-Hamdoon has rendered classical Arabic works into accessible English, including Imam al-Nawawi's Bustan al-Arifin (Garden of the Aware), on which he also authored the companion volume Strolling in the Garden, and Ibn Bafadl's introductory Shafi'i fiqh manual, the Hadrami Introduction. He is a member of the British Board of Scholars and Imams (BBSI).
