About
Omer Siddique is a contemporary English translator of classical and modern Islamic works, with a particular focus on Sufism, devotional life, and the spiritual sciences. He has brought into English several texts that bridge the classical Sufi tradition and its modern Turkish and Arabic exponents.
Among his published translations is Ibn ʿAtaʾ Allah al-Iskandari's al-Tanwir fi Isqat al-Tadbir, rendered as "The Illumination on Abandoning Self-Direction." This work of the Shadhili master is a foundational treatise on tawakkul, the surrender of self-management to the divine decree, and remains a staple of Sufi instruction. Siddique also translated the Turkish scholar Osman Nuri Topbas's biography of Imam al-Rabbani, Ahmad Sirhindi (971-1034 AH / 1564-1624 CE), titled "Imam Al-Rabbani: Ahmed Al-Sirhindi, The Reviver of the Second Millenium," an introduction to the life and renewing mission of the great Naqshbandi reformer of Mughal India. A further translation is Muhammad Saʿid Ramadan al-Buti's "ʿAʾisha: Wife to the Prophet, Mother to a Nation," a concise scholarly biography of the Mother of the Believers.
His translations appear under the Dhikr imprint and are carried by Islamic booksellers internationally. In the MeccaBooks catalog he is credited on several titles as both translator and, where he has supplied framing or supplementary material, as author. Beyond this body of published work, biographical details about him are not widely documented.
