About
Rashid al-Din Maybudi rahimahullah was a Persian scholar and Sufi commentator who flourished in the early 6th century AH (12th century CE). He is the author of the celebrated Kashf al-Asrar wa 'Uddat al-Abrar, a monumental Persian tafsir composed in 520 AH. The work is organized in ten volumes and presents each Qur'anic passage at three levels: a literal translation into Persian, an exoteric commentary drawing on classical tafsir sources, and a mystical or spiritual commentary rooted in the Sufi tradition. The tafsir is regarded as one of the most significant early examples of Persian Sufi Qur'an commentary, and it preserves important material from the oral teachings of the Sufi master Khwaja 'Abdullah Ansari of Herat.
