About
Richard C. Martin is Emeritus Professor of Religion at Emory University, where his scholarly work has focused on Islamic intellectual history and theology. He is a co-author of 'Defenders of Reason in Islam: Mu'tazilism from Medieval School to Modern Symbol,' written together with Mark R. Woodward and Dwi S. Atmaja. The book examines the Mu'tazila school of rationalist Islamic theology, tracing its origins in the medieval period and exploring its influence on modern Islamic thought. Martin's contributions reflect his broader interest in the intersection of reason, revelation, and religious authority in the Islamic tradition.
