Rkia Elaroui Cornell is Professor of Pedagogy and Coordinator of the Arabic program at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Her research and teaching span Qur'anic exegesis, the history of women in Islam, and Arabic language pedagogy, and she has presented widely at academic lectures and conferences on these subjects. As a translator, she rendered into English 'Early Sufi Women' (FV064), a foundational collection on female Sufi figures. As a scholar and author, she wrote 'Rabi'a: From Narrative to Myth' (OP022), a critical study of the early female mystic Rabi'a al-'Adawiyya. Her work bridges traditional Islamic learning and contemporary academic inquiry into the spiritual lives of Muslim women.
