About
Sara Khan is a contemporary author and qualified translator best known for the My First Book series of Islamic board books written for toddlers and young children. Born in Stuttgart, Germany, she moved to the United Kingdom at the age of twelve, and is fluent in German, Arabic, and Urdu. She holds a first-class BA (hons) in Linguistics and Arabic and an MA in Translation and Interpreting Studies, both from the University of Manchester, where her postgraduate research focused on the translation and adaptation of the Qurʾan for children. That academic background, paired with her experience as a parent, shaped a body of work aimed at presenting Islam to very young readers in a clear, age-appropriate way. Her My First Book titles, illustrated by Ali (Alison) Lodge and published by the Islamic Foundation, introduce core subjects of faith and practice, among them the Qurʾan, salah, Ramadan, Allah, the Prophet Muhammad, and Hajj, using short, read-aloud text and warm illustrations. The series, generally aimed at ages two to six, has been widely adopted by Muslim families and schools seeking an accessible first introduction to Islamic teachings. Khan has also produced companion early-learning items such as memory and jigsaw games on Islamic themes. Her work fills a real gap in age-appropriate Islamic material for the youngest children.
