Sarwar Alam Raz was born on March 16, 1935, in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh (then Central Provinces, British India), into a distinguished Muslim family with deep roots in Urdu literature and poetry. His grandfather, the late Hafiz Mohammad Jafar, was an accomplished Ghazal poet, and his father, the late Abul Fazil Mohammad Sadiq 'Raz' Chandpuri, was a disciple of Maulana Seemaab Akbarabadi of the Dagh school and a noted poet and writer. Sarwar Alam Raz pursued a career in engineering, studying Civil Structural Engineering at Louisiana State University and North Carolina State University in the USA from 1964. He later resigned from Aligarh Muslim University and emigrated permanently to the USA in 1971, subsequently working as a Senior Civil Structural Engineer with various international consulting engineering firms. He is the author of the Handbook for Hajj and Umrah, published by Kube Publishing.
