Sema Onat earned her illumination diploma after extensive training in the art of Turkish illumination, with a focus on drawing techniques, illumination motifs, floral ornamentation, and miniatures. She completed her specialty courses in 2009 and now teaches illumination from her workshops in Istanbul. Onat has organized various projects with her students and has participated in numerous exhibitions, both within Turkey and internationally. Her works have been displayed in many private collections. She has received several prestigious awards in the fields of classical illumination and miniature arts, including accreditation from the Turkish Ministry of Culture as an official artist - a distinction given to select individuals of outstanding achievement. Her book Islamic Art of Illumination provides an authoritative account of the classical tazhib tradition from the Ottoman period to the present day.
