About
Seyyed Shahabeddin Mesbahi is a scholar of Islamic mysticism and gnosis (irfan), holding a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. His scholarly work focuses on the methodology and theoretical dimensions of Islamic mysticism, particularly as expressed in Sufism and the philosophy of irfan. His earlier work, Muqaddamayi Piramun-i Ravish Shinasi dar Irfan (An Introduction to Methodology in Islamic Mysticism), published in 2006, laid the groundwork for his subsequent research. His book Method and Mysticism examines the nexus between mystical method - in both a philosophical and practical sense - and the human and cosmic dimensions of man's journey to God, drawing on the traditions of Sufism and gnosis. His later work Ibn Arabi and Kubrawis explores the reception of the school of Ibn Arabi by Kubrawi mystics, tracing a significant strand of the transmission of Ibn Arabi's metaphysical vision within the Persian-speaking Sufi tradition. He served as a visiting fellow at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies.
