About
Shahid Hussain is a British Muslim translator born and raised in Leicester, England. He works as a freelance part-time translator and has devoted a significant portion of his career to rendering the Islamic narrative works of Sultan-ul-Waizeen Maulana Abul Noor Muhammad Bashir (1913-2007) from Urdu into English. Maulana Bashir was a celebrated Urdu scholar, orator, and prolific author whose multi-volume story collections - drawn from Qur'anic narrative, seerah, and Islamic history - became widely read in South Asian Muslim communities. Shahid Hussain began translating this corpus in 2012, producing Jibreel Stories, the authorized English translation of Jibreel ki Hikaayat, a collection of eighteen stories about the angel Jibril. He followed this with Shaytan Stories, the translation of Shaytan ki Hikaayat, a collection of sixty-eight accounts of the adversary of humanity, and the multi-volume True Stories of Islam, the authorized translation of the opening volumes of Sachhi Hikaayat. All of his translations are published by Abul Noor Publications and have introduced Maulana Bashir's storytelling tradition to a new generation of English-speaking Muslim readers.
