About
Shaykh Dr. Taha Jabir al-Alwani (1935-2016) rahimahullah was an Iraqi Islamic scholar, jurist, and intellectual who dedicated his career to developing a contemporary Islamic methodology in jurisprudence and thought. He studied at al-Azhar University in Cairo, earning his doctorate in Islamic jurisprudence, and became a leading authority in usul al-fiqh (principles of Islamic law). He was a co-founder and longtime president of the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), based in Herndon, Virginia, which he helped establish as a center for the Islamization of knowledge. He also served as president of the Fiqh Council of North America, providing juristic guidance to Muslim communities in the West. Among his published works are 'Issues in Contemporary Islamic Thought' (IIIT003) and 'The Ethics of Disagreement in Islam' (IIIT018), the latter addressing the Islamic framework for managing scholarly difference.
