About
Umar Ibrahim Vadillo was born in 1964 in Spain, where he attended the Augustinian College in Navarre before studying Agronomy at the University of Madrid. While at university he embraced Islam. He subsequently undertook an extended period of study applying the commercial parameters defined in classical Islamic jurisprudence, particularly Imam Malik's Al-Muwatta, to the realities of modern finance. This led him to a concentrated focus on Zakat and on the necessary restoration of the Islamic Gold Dinar and Silver Dirham as real-wealth currencies. His work on Dinar-based finance attracted the attention of several heads of state: his proposals were adopted by Dr. Necmettin Erbakan, the Turkish Prime Minister, and the late King Hasan II of Morocco undertook to restore Zakat to its correct legal position before his death. A working paper based on Vadillo's Dinar framework was also used by Dr. Mahathir, Prime Minister of Malaysia. He has lectured extensively at universities in Morocco, Malaysia, and Indonesia, and is the author of works on Islamic economics, the Gold Dinar, and esoteric deviations in Islamic thought.
