About
Zanib Mian studied Molecular Cell Biology at University College London before working as a secondary school science teacher. Motivated by the lack of diverse and inclusive representation in children's publishing, she left teaching to found Sweet Apple Publishers, through which she has published numerous picture books and early readers, many of which she authored herself. Her books have been featured on BBC's CBeebies Bedtime Stories and praised by The Guardian for their contribution to diversity in children's literature. She was commissioned to write an opera for The Mahogany Opera Group, regularly features at the Bradford Literature Festival, and serves on the panel of judges for the Young Muslim Writers Awards. Her Planet Omar series, first published under the title The Muslims, is her first work for older readers and is published by Hachette Children's Group; it won the Little Rebels Award 2018 and was shortlisted for the UKLA Award and nominated for the CILIP Carnegie Medal.
