Gai Eaton: Charles le Gai Eaton rahimahullah (1 January 1921 - 26 February 2010), also known as Hasan le Gai Eaton or Hassan Abdul Hakeem, was a British diplomat, writer, and Islamic scholar of the traditional Sufi tradition. Born in Switzerland, he received his education at Charterhouse and King's College, Cambridge. He spent formative years working as a teacher and journalist in Jamaica and Egypt, and it was during his time in Egypt that he embraced Islam in 1951. He subsequently entered the British Diplomatic Service, serving in various postings. In his later years he became a consultant to the Islamic Cultural Centre in London, contributing to Islamic intellectual life in Britain. Among Western Muslim writers, Gai Eaton is regarded as one of the most eloquent voices of the twentieth century, combining deep Islamic learning with literary grace.
