al-Asma wa al-Sifat li-l-Baghdadi is Imam Abu Mansur al-Baghdadi's three-volume treatment of the divine Names and Attributes — a major Ashari theological reference from a generation immediately following the school's foundation by Imam Abu al-Hasan al-Ashari. The work establishes, with the scholastic rigour characteristic of early Ashari kalam, the Sunni position on each individual divine Name and Attribute against the alternative interpretations of the Mutazila, the philosophers, the anthropomorphists, and the various dissenting groups of the late-classical Sunni world.

About The Author

Imam Abu Mansur Abd al-Qahir b. Tahir al-Baghdadi (370-429 AH / 980-1037 CE) was a Khurasani Shafii scholar and Ashari theologian who taught at Nishapur. Beyond al-Asma wa al-Sifat, his celebrated Usul al-Din and al-Farq bayn al-Firaq are among the foundational works of fifth-century AH Sunni-Ashari thought.

عن المؤلف

الإمام أبو منصور عبد القاهر بن طاهر البغدادي (٣٧٠-٤٢٩ هـ) عالم شافعي خراساني ومتكلم أشعري درّس بنيسابور. له بالإضافة إلى الأسماء والصفات "أصول الدين" و"الفرق بين الفرق" — من أعمال القرن الخامس الهجري التأسيسية للفكر السنّي الأشعري.
