al-Murshid al-Muin is Ibn Ashir's celebrated didactic poem combining the three foundational sciences of the Maghribi curriculum — Ashari aqida, Maliki fiqh, and Junaydi tasawwuf — into a single short matn of 317 lines of rajaz verse. The opening section presents the Ashari creed in summary form; the middle and longest section sets out the rulings of Maliki fiqh across ibadat; the closing section treats the inner disciplines of the heart in the spirit of the moderate Junaydi Sufism. The matn was composed for memorisation by beginning students in the Marrakshi-Fasi tradition and quickly became the standard primer of the Maghribi madrasa system.

For more than four centuries, al-Murshid al-Muin has been the foundational primer for Maliki students across Morocco, West Africa, and beyond — committed to memory in childhood and revisited throughout an adult life of study. It has generated dozens of commentaries, foremost the celebrated commentaries of al-Manjur, al-Tawudi, and al-Mayyara.

About The Author

Imam Abu Muhammad Abd al-Wahid b. Ashir al-Ansari al-Andalusi (990-1040 AH / 1582-1631 CE) was a Moroccan Maliki scholar of Andalusian descent. A jurist, theologian, hadith scholar, and Quranic reciter, he taught in Fez where he composed al-Murshid al-Muin in 1040 AH — the year of his death.

"المرشد المعين على الضروري من علوم الدين" منظومةُ الإمام ابن عاشر الشهيرة، تَجْمَع علوم العقيدة الأشعرية والفقه المالكي والتصوف الجنيدي في متنٍ واحدٍ من ٣١٧ بيتاً من الرَّجَز. صدّرها بالعقيدة الأشعرية موجزةً، ثم بَسَط فقهَ المالكية في العبادات، ثم خَتَم بأحوال القلب على طريقة الصوفية المعتدلين. صار المتن — منذ صدوره — حَجَر الزاوية للتعليم المغربي في كلّ المدارس، وعليه شروحٌ كثيرة، أشهرها للمنجور والتاودي والميارة.

الإمام أبو محمد عبد الواحد بن عاشر الأنصاري الأندلسي (٩٩٠-١٠٤٠ هـ) عالمٌ مغربيٌّ من أصلٍ أندلسي. فقيه ومتكلّم ومحدِّث ومُقْرئ، درَّس بفاس وصنَّف المرشد المعين سنة ١٠٤٠ هـ — هي السنةُ التي مات فيها.
