al-Najm al-Wahhaj is Imam Kamal al-Din al-Damiri's substantial ten-volume commentary on al-Nawawi's Minhaj al-Talibin — the foundational matn of late Shafii fiqh. The Minhaj itself is an abridgement of al-Rafii's al-Muharrar; al-Damiri's commentary unfolds it across ten volumes with attention to the technical vocabulary, the underlying principles, and the comparative positions of the Shafii authorities. Less famous than the Tuhfa of Ibn Hajar al-Haytami or the Nihaya of al-Ramli, the Najm al-Wahhaj is nonetheless a major reference in the Shafii commentary tradition.

About The Author

Imam Kamal al-Din al-Damiri (742-808 AH / 1341-1405 CE) was an Egyptian Shafii scholar of the late Mamluk period — author of the celebrated al-Najm al-Wahhaj (commentary on the Minhaj) and the famous Hayat al-Hayawan, the Islamic world's most comprehensive medieval zoological encyclopedia.

"النجم الوهاج في شرح المنهاج" شرحُ الإمام كمال الدين الدميري الكبير في عشرة مجلّدات على "منهاج الطالبين" للنووي — متنُ الفقه الشافعي الأَسَاسي. منهاجُ النووي اختصارٌ لـ"المحرّر" للرّافعي؛ يَفُكُّه الدميري في عشرة مجلّدات بانتباهٍ إلى المصطلحات الفنّيّة والأصول الفقهية وأقوال الشافعية. أَقَلُّ شُهرةً من تحفة ابن حجر الهيتمي ونهاية الرملي، لكنّه مرجعٌ كبير في تَقْليد الشرح الشافعي.
