About the author
ibn al-Athir al-Jazari: al-Imam Majd al-Din al-Mubarak b. Muhammad Ibn al-Athir al-Jazari rahimahullah (544-606 AH / 1149-1210 CE) was a classical Muslim scholar who excelled in hadith studies, history, and Arabic language sciences. He was born in Jazira (northern Iraq/Syria region) and served in administrative roles under the Zangid rulers while dedicating himself to scholarship. He is best known for al-Nihaya fi Gharib al-Hadith wa al-Athar, an eight-volume encyclopedic lexicon that explains rare, obscure, and difficult words appearing in hadith and athar, which became the definitive reference in the science of gharib al-hadith. He also authored al-Kamil fi al-Tarikh, one of the most important chronicles of Islamic history. He is the brother of the historian Ali Ibn al-Athir.
