al-Sahaba Nujum al-Ihtida is Shaykh Muhammad Akhtar Rida Khan al-Azhari's treatise on the Companions of the Prophet (Allah be pleased with them) as 'stars of guidance' — the canonical Sunni position, anchored in the hadith 'My Companions are like the stars; whichever of them you follow, you are guided.' Working from his position as Grand Mufti of India, Shaykh Akhtar Rida defends the elevated Sunni veneration of all the Companions — including those whom Shia and certain modernist currents have called into question — and traces the doctrinal implications of their authority for Sunni jurisprudence, theology, and devotional life.

About The Author

Shaykh Muhammad Akhtar Rida Khan al-Azhari (1361-1439 AH / 1942-2018 CE) was the Grand Mufti of India and the supreme religious authority of the South Asian Sunni-Barelvi community of his generation. The grandson of Imam Ahmad Rida Khan, he was educated at the family madrasa Manzar al-Islam in Bareilly and then at al-Azhar in Cairo, returning to India to serve as Grand Mufti and to lead the development of the Sunni scholarly establishment in the subcontinent through the late twentieth century.

"الصحابة نجوم الاهتداء" رسالةُ الشيخ محمد أختر رضا خان الأزهري في الصحابة رضوان الله عليهم بِوَصْفهم "نجوم الاهتداء" — الموقفُ السنّي الكلاسيكي، المؤصَّل بحديث "أصحابي كالنجوم، بأيِّهم اقْتَدَيْتُم اهْتَدَيْتُم". يَعمل الشيخُ من مَوْقعه مفتياً عامّاً للهند، فيَدْفَع عن التَّعْظيم السنّي العالي لجميع الصحابة — بمن فيهم مَن نَزَع عنهم بعضُ الشيعة وبعضُ تيّارات الحَداثة — ويَتَتَبَّع آثار سلطتِهم العَقَدية في فقه السنّة وكلامها وحياتها الدعوية.

عن المؤلف

الشيخ محمد أختر رضا خان الأزهري (١٣٦١-١٤٣٩ هـ) مُفتي الهند الأكبر، والمرجعُ الديني الأَعْلى لجماعة السنّة الأهلية البريلوية بالقارّة الهندية في جيله. حفيد الإمام أحمد رضا خان، تَخَرَّج من مدرسة الأسرة "منظر الإسلام" ببَريلي ثم من الأزهر بالقاهرة، ورَجَع إلى الهند مُفتياً وقائداً لِبِناء المؤسسة العلمية السنّية بالقارّة طوال أواخر القرن العشرين.
