In them he explains all the different aspects of the topic involved, removes any misconceptions which have grown up around it and clarifies any difficulties.
This book is particularly important in that it covers the subject matter of the last of the Muslim's "pillars of belief", belief in the Divine Decree. A correct understanding of this matter is absolutely necessary if we wish to know how existence really functions and what our place in it is.
There is very little in English dealing with this vital topic, which has been the subject of so much debate and difficulty throughout the ages, and this volume therefore is essential reading for all who want to deepen and clarify their understanding of it.

Muhammad Metwalli al-Sharawi: Muhammad Metwalli al-Sharawi (1911-1998 CE) was among the most beloved Qurʾan teachers of the modern Arab world, honored in Egypt as Imam al-Duʿat, the "leader of the preachers." He was born on April 15, 1911, in the village of Daqadus near Mit Ghamr in the Daqahliyya province of the Nile Delta, and had memorized the entire Qurʾan by around the age of eleven. He pursued his studies at al-Azhar in Cairo, graduating from the Faculty of Arabic Language in 1941. Over the following decades he taught Shariʿa abroad, including years at Umm al-Qura University and at King Abdulaziz University in Makka, and he served as Egypt's Minister of Endowments (Awqaf) from 1976 to 1978 under President Anwar Sadat. Ashʿari in creed, al-Sharawi became a household name across the Arabic-speaking world through his televised Qurʾanic reflections, Khawatir al-Shaʿrawi, in which he unfolded the meanings of verses in simple, vivid language that reached scholars and ordinary listeners alike. His spoken commentary was later gathered into a large printed tafsir, and many shorter treatises on faith, the unseen, and questions of good and evil circulate under his name. He died on June 17, 1998, mourned widely across Egypt and beyond. The works offered here, on the Qurʾan's wonders, the hereafter, and the trials of this life, carry forward his gift for making scripture speak to the everyday believer.

Aisha Bewley: Aisha Bewley (b. 1948 CE) is one of the most prolific and respected translators of classical Arabic Islamic literature into English. Born in the United States, she earned a BA in French and an MA in Near Eastern languages at the University of California, Berkeley, and undertook further study at the American University in Cairo. She embraced Islam in 1968 and has since devoted more than four decades to rendering the texts of the Islamic tradition into clear, accessible English. Her best-known work is The Noble Qur'an, a translation of the meanings of the Qur'an produced with her husband, Abdalhaqq Bewley, and first published in 1999. Among her landmark translations are the Muwatta' of Imam Malik ibn Anas (1989), a foundational early collection of hadith and Maliki fiqh, and the multi-volume Tafsir of al-Qurtubi (2003 onward). Her wider output spans creed, law, and Prophetic biography, including abridgements and renderings of works such as Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya's writing on the soul after death and classical descriptions of the noble character and appearance of the Prophet, peace be upon him. WorldCat records her as author or translator of dozens of works across many editions, and in 2023 she was named Muslim Woman of the Year by The Muslim 500, which recognizes the world's most influential Muslims.
