Hadi al-Hairin ila Rusum Akhlaq al-Arifin is Imam Abd al-Wahhab al-Sharani's practical manual on the manners (akhlaq) of the spiritual gnostics. Where many works on the path focus on metaphysics or the stations and states of the heart, al-Sharani trains his attention on the practical comportment that distinguishes a true wayfarer from a pretender: how the arif speaks, eats, sits, deals with his family, with his brethren, with strangers, with rulers, with the poor. The book is composed in his characteristic candid prose, with frequent illustrations from the lives of his own teachers and from the broader Egyptian Sufi tradition.

Read primarily as a corrective companion to more theoretical Sufi works, the book remains one of the most-cited practical guides to Sufi adab.

About The Author

Imam Abd al-Wahhab al-Sharani (898-973 AH / 1493-1565 CE) was one of the foremost Egyptian Sufi masters of the late Mamluk and early Ottoman periods. A jurist, hadith scholar, and Sufi shaykh, he founded a zawiya in Cairo that became a major center of Sufi learning. His prolific corpus includes al-Mizan al-Kubra in comparative fiqh, Lataif al-Minan al-Kubra (his spiritual autobiography), and al-Tabaqat al-Kubra (a comprehensive biographical dictionary of the Sufis).

"هادي الحائرين إلى رسوم أخلاق العارفين" دليلٌ عمليٌّ للإمام الشعراني على أخلاق الصوفية. يصرف فيه الإمامُ نظرَ القارئ عن النظر في الميتافيزيقا أو في مقامات القلب وأحواله إلى ما يُمَيِّز العارفَ صدقاً عن العارف ادّعاءً: في كلامه، وأكلِه، وجلوسِه، وتعامُلِه مع أهله وإخوانه والغرباء والحكّام والفقراء. كُتب بأسلوبه الصريح المعتاد، مع أمثلة من سيرة شيوخه ومن التراث الصوفي المصري.

عن المؤلف

الإمام عبد الوهاب الشعراني (٨٩٨-٩٧٣ هـ) من أعرز مشايخ الصوفية المصرية في العصرين المملوكي والعثماني المبكر. جمع بين الفقه والحديث والتصوّف، وأسّس زاويةً بالقاهرة صارت مركزاً للتعليم الصوفي. من كتبه: "الميزان الكبرى" في الفقه المقارن، و"لطائف المنن الكبرى" في سيرته الذاتية الروحية، و"الطبقات الكبرى" في تراجم الصوفية.
