About The Book
Mashariq al-Anwar al-Mudiyya is Imam al-Qastallani's celebrated commentary on al-Busiri's Burda — the most famous ode in the entire literature of Arabic Prophetic praise. The Burda (al-Kawakib al-Durriyya fi Madh Khayr al-Bariyya), 160 lines composed by al-Busiri in seventh-century AH Egypt after a healing dream of the Prophet, has been recited continuously in Sunni circles ever since and has generated dozens of major commentaries. al-Qastallani's commentary is especially valued for its hadith-rich approach: he is best known as a master of the Prophetic sira (his Mawahib al-Laduniyya is one of the major classical sira works), and he brings to each line of the Burda the textual depth of a celebrated muhaddith and seerah scholar.

Imam Shihab al-Din Ahmad b. Muhammad al-Qastallani (851-923 AH / 1448-1517 CE) was the foremost Egyptian Shafii hadith and sira scholar of the late Mamluk era. His Irshad al-Sari is a multi-volume commentary on Sahih al-Bukhari that remains one of the standard references for the work, and his Mawahib al-Laduniyya is among the four canonical classical sira works alongside Ibn Hisham, al-Tabari, and Ibn Sayyid al-Nas.

"مشارق الأنوار المضيّة شرح البردة" شرحُ الإمام القسطلاني المشهور على بُرْدَة البوصيري — أَشْهَر قصيدةٍ في تاريخ المديح النبوي العربي. تُلِيَت البُرْدَة (الكواكب الدريّة في مدح خير البريّة، في ١٦٠ بيتاً، صنّفها البوصيري في القرن السابع الهجري بعد رؤيا الشفاء النبوية) منذ ذلك العصر، وعليها شروحٌ كثيرة. ومَيْزَةُ شرح القسطلاني أنّه يأتي من قَلَم إمامٍ من أئمّة الحديث والسيرة — صاحبُ "إرشاد الساري" على البخاري و"المواهب اللدنية" — فيَأَنق إليه عُمْقَ الذخيرة النصّية الحديثية والسيرية.

الإمام شهاب الدين أحمد بن محمد القسطلاني (٨٥١-٩٢٣ هـ) إمام أهل الحديث والسيرة في مصر المماليكية المتأخّرة. له "إرشاد الساري" شرحاً على صحيح البخاري، و"المواهب اللدنيّة" من أمّهات السيرة الكلاسيكية بعد ابن هشام والطبري وابن سيد الناس.

al-Qastallani: Imam Shihab al-Din Ahmad b. Muhammad al-Qastallani (851-923 AH / 1448-1517 CE), rahimahullah, was the preeminent Egyptian Shafi'i scholar in the fields of hadith and sira in the late Mamluk period. Born in Cairo, he rose to become among the most authoritative hadith transmitters and commentators of his generation. His Irshad al-Sari fi Sharh Sahih al-Bukhari is a comprehensive multi-volume commentary on Sahih al-Bukhari and stands as one of the indispensable standard references for the text. His Mawahib al-Laduniyya bi al-Minan al-Muhammadiyya, a major biography of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, is counted among the four principal classical sira works. His commentary on the Burda of al-Busiri - Mashariq al-Anwar al-Mudiyya - draws on this depth in hadith and sira to illuminate the celebrated poem from within a rich textual tradition.

Bilal Muhammad Hatem al-Sakka: Bilal Muhammad Hatem al-Sakka is a contemporary muhaqqiq, a scholarly editor whose task is to establish, annotate, and prepare classical Arabic and Islamic manuscripts for modern publication. He is associated chiefly with Dar al-Taqwa in Damascus, and his editions have appeared in recent years across several distributors of traditional Islamic books. His editorial output spans a notably broad range of the classical disciplines. In Sufism he has edited ʿAwarif al-Maʿarif, the influential handbook of the spiritual path by Shihab al-Din al-Suhrawardi. He has given particular attention to the devotional poetry tradition surrounding the Burda of al-Busiri, preparing two of its major commentaries, Mashariq al-Anwar al-Mudiyya and the three-volume Izhar Sidq al-Mawadda fi Sharh al-Burda. In the Arabic language sciences he edited the Hashiya of al-Sujaʿi on Ibn ʿAqil's commentary on the Alfiyya, a standard work of grammar. In hadith and fatwa literature he prepared al-Fatawa al-Hadithiyya of Ibn Hajar al-Haytami.
