Mawlid al-Daybai is among the most-recited prose Mawlids in the Sunni world, second in circulation only to the Mawlid al-Barzanji. Composed by the Yemeni Shafii hadith scholar Wajih al-Din Ibn al-Daybai al-Shaybani in the late ninth century AH, the work narrates the Prophetic biography in rhythmic prose, integrating Quranic citations, hadith narratives, and traditional sira accounts into a continuous narrative for collective recitation in Mawlid gatherings.

Particularly beloved in Yemen, the Hijaz, the Hadrami diaspora, and the Indian Ocean rim — including East Africa, the Comoros, and parts of Southeast Asia — the Daybai Mawlid has been a staple of Sunni devotional life for more than five centuries.

About The Author

Imam Wajih al-Din Abd al-Rahman b. Ali Ibn al-Daybai al-Shaybani (866-944 AH / 1461-1537 CE) was a Yemeni Shafii master of hadith and history. Born in Zabid, he became the leading hadith authority of his city and composed major works in hadith and Yemeni history.

"مولد الديبعي" من أوسع المواليد النثرية انتشاراً في العالم السنّي، يتلو "مولد البرزنجي" في كثرة القراءة. صنَّفه المحدِّث الشافعي اليمني وجيه الدين ابن الديبع الشيباني في أواخر القرن التاسع الهجري. يَنْسُج الكتابُ السيرةَ النبوية في نَثْرٍ إيقاعي مَزْجاً بين الآيات والأحاديث وقصص السيرة في سَرْدٍ متّصلٍ يَسْتَوي تَلاوةً في مجالس المولد. يَحْظى بِخُصُوصِية في اليمن والحجاز والجاليات الحضرمية ومحيط المحيط الهندي.

عن المؤلف

الإمام وجيه الدين عبد الرحمن بن علي ابن الديبع الشيباني (٨٦٦-٩٤٤ هـ) محدِّثٌ شافعيٌّ يمني من زبيد، صار المحدِّثَ الأكبر في بلده. له مؤلَّفاتٌ في الحديث وتاريخ اليمن.
